Living in Hawaii provides so many opportunities but none like living in Waikiki. Our city in paradise. Waikiki offers a unique city lifestyle. Some even refer to it as our concrete jungle on the beach. Lots of hotels, resorts, high rise condominiums and outdoor adventures waiting for you. Learn what it’s like to really live in Waikiki Hawaii.

Where Is Waikiki Hawaii?

It always helps to first understand where Waikiki is in reference to the Hawaiian islands and the island of Oahu in which it resides. It’s zip code is 96815. Waikiki is nestled on the southeastern shores of Honolulu on the island of Oahu, Hawaii’s most populous island.

According to niche.com Waikiki is home to over 25,000 residents. While that number might not match up to the likes of New York City, or Los Angeles, it still can seem like a congested city when living in Waikiki.

Being that Waikiki is one of the more well known cities in Hawaii it attracts a huge chunk of Hawaii’s visitors annually. With over 10 million visitors annually the bulk of them flock to experience Waikiki’s southeastern shores.

Waikiki is Hawaii’s concrete jungle in paradise. Walk through a city of beautiful highrise buildings, tons of great places to eat and shop, and with a sudden turn south to be at Waikiki beach.

Do You Need A Car?

This question really depends on your lifestyle and needs. When living in Waikiki Hawaii you will live relatively close to a lot of the things you may need. Easy to travel on foot, bicycle, moped or you preferred method of transportation.

A lof of people that do call Waikiki home often do not own a vehicle. That being said, it’s important to note that not all condos in Waikiki, whether renting or buying, come with a parking stall. If you do plan to have a vehicle it’s important to double check this. We help so many people purchase condos in Waikiki and this is often the first item we are looking for. Does it come with parking?

If you plan on not having a vehicle then a parking spot is essentially an irrelevant topic for you. Getting around on foot is relatively easy. Depending where you live you could be at Waikiki beach in 4 blocks, to the Zoo on the eastern most end in 6 blocks, or back to the ala wai canal in just a few blocks. Waikiki isn’t a very big city so you may not need a car. It’s all about your lifestyle.

Meeting New People From Around The World

A lot of cities claim to be a “melting pot” of cultures. I can’t tell you any other place that compares to Waikiki when it comes to the variety of cultures in one place. Think about it…

Waikiki is on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. To the west you have several asian countries. To the southwest is Australia. East is the mainland United States. Southeast is Mexico along with South America and other surrounding countries.

You could be walking down Waikiki, enter one store and hear mandarin and tagalog and walk into another store and hear an Australian accent, or someone speaking Spanish. Hawaii in general, but Waikiki to be more specific is a huge melting pot and a wonderful opportunity to meet new people from around the world.

Waikiki Beach

At last…Waikiki beach! The destination of so many vacations. Waikiki’s shores stretch for nearly the entire zip code of 96815. Starting just after the Waikiki Marina and Hilton Hawaiian Lagoon. Crystal clear blues crashing on the shore with stretches of restaurants and shopping. Sounds amazing right?

Well…if you’re not one that can stand crowded beached then Waikiki may not be the place for you. It’s a rare day to be on Waikiki beach and it is not crowded. Not trying to steer you away from Waikiki by any means. Just be aware that if you want to stay in Waikiki so you can regularly enjoy this beautiful beach, you will be enjoying it with many others.
